Page Rank 3!

Saturday Jun 27, 2009

My page rank is now 3. I was really surprised with the increase when I checked it a few hours ago. My page rank was a 2 some months back but I never expected it to climb to a 3 this soon. It now has the same page rank as my other blog on Philippine Money which I think has much more authority (backlinks and content-wise). It puzzles me how this blog got this page rank increase.

I’m now on Facebook!

Tuesday Jun 23, 2009

What was I thinking?! I signed up for Facebook last night after refusing to do so for several months.

facebook-aaaah

Well, I suppose I gave up on the idea that there is more to be gained from joining this social networking site than from avoiding it.

Too quiet here for too long

Saturday Jun 20, 2009

I feel like breaking the long silence in this blog. I always feel too busy to blog but I realize I will not be any less busy soon. Perhaps I should quit making very long articles and content myself with a paragraph or two. I should also care less about paragraph structure and just concentrate on the spontaneous expression of my thoughts.

There are actually a lot of things I wanted to blog about lately but, knowing my fondness for details, it will take me at least an hour to write a post and attach all the necessary pictures. Well, let’s put all of them in one paragraph and see if I can elaborate later on.

Last June 12, Independence Day I went around Panay (Iloilo City-Tibiao, Antique-Kalibo, Aklan-Roxas City-Iloilo City) to visit a business venture of mine and interview my grandma for an upcoming birthday party. When I returned, I got a [real] new phone - Nokia 3120c - which I like very much. A few days ago, I had another very weird dream (?) where I repeatedly woke up to the loud chirping of so many birds which all seemed to be in my head. Next week, my schedule is still a headache but my priority is our third (and probably final) performance of the AD musical on Thursday, June 25, 6 PM at the Doane Baptist Church. Tomorrow is my Fathers’ Day and also my mother’s birthday but I’ll be out of the house most of the day.

Okay. I actually did it in one long paragraph. Achievement? I’m actually drooling to go into the details of each of those sentences but I need to eat dinner now so I could sleep early and wake up by 5:30 AM tomorrow. Sigh.. I spent 15 minutes making this post.

A Repeat Concert!

Wednesday May 27, 2009

Whew, it’s been a long time since I last posted here. Before this month ends, I should at least make one post for May.

This Sunday May 31, we, the DBC Chancel Choir, will be having a repeat performance of our Easter musical which we performed last April 12. Some told me they didn’t know about last month’s presentation, so now will be a good time to watch for those who missed it.

The musical is entitled AD: A Muscial for Easter and Beyond (created by Deborah Craig-Claar and Robert Sterling) We will be singing all the 8 songs/medleys PLUS 3 more since this repeat is for the church anniversary. If you want a preview, below is an excerpt from last April. The first time I heard the recording, I was surprised we sounded like, well, a real choir. Haha!

Last Aprils Invitation

Last April's Invitation

We are now busy rehearsing since it’s only 4 days away. I myself am struggling reaching the really high notes in the new songs. This is my first time to encounter G4s! Last time I thought F4 was already way above my vocal range. Surprisingly, I managed to do it quite well during the actual performance.

Wow!

Wow!

Well, this is all by God’s grace. I never even thought I could sing. How much more sing as a tenor? I think my participation in this concert is a subtle miracle in itself.

Okay, so mark it! May 31, 2009, 5PM, at the Doane Baptist Church Hall. Here is a map in case you have no idea where that is.

Again, this invitation is also extended to non-Christians and even aetheists. You can come just for the entertainnment. It’s free admission anyway. See you there!

New Camera(s)

Tuesday Apr 28, 2009

It’s been months since I started to want to replace my Pentax Optio S5Z. I’ve had it for more than 2 years now and in my disk I have almost 30,000 photos and videos taken by. It was a camera with good features and satisfactory image quality, but recently it’s photos have started to deteriorate. The camera repair shop told me there’s moisture on its sensor and fungi on the lens. They’re charging me P2,500 to clean it! I guess it’s time to get a new camera.

For a change, I just applied this 3-column Strong Black theme by Saroyama. Doesn't look too bad right? I had to do a few tweakings to get it right. While it's not perfect, I think I'll stick with this for a while. Let me know if you encounter some annoying bugs! (1)

I'm getting tired of this site's theme. It's starting to look too plain for me. Looking for a better one's not that easy though. I might go for 3 columns. Any suggestions? (1)

Image Compression in Globe Tattoo

Saturday Apr 18, 2009

Since I got my Globe Tattoo (aka Visibility) kit, I’ve been frustrated over its automatic compression of images in every website I visit. I’m quite particular with photos and their quality so it was a major problem and I thought I was stuck with it as long as I use my Globe Tattoo unit.

It was only lately when I noticed something everytime I hover on a photo. A message appears “please wait 1 second(s) for an uncompressed image, or press Ctrl+F5 for original quality page”.

I tried it and it worked! All along I’ve been suffering from seeing blurry images everywhere and it’s only now that learned there’s an easy way out of it!

So if you want to see the original uncompressed image of a single photo, just hover your cursor over it for a while and it will reload automatically. If you want to see the all the photos in the entire page uncompressed, just hit Ctrl+F5 (check below for non-Firefox users).

See the difference in these crops from my Philippine Money blog. If you’re using Globe wireless broadband, make sure to first press Ctrl+F5 or you might now see the difference!

Uncompressed after hovering mouse on image for a while

Of course Globe is automatically compressing the photos we download in in its servers in order to give us a faster browsing experience. Now that we know of a way to opt for uncompressed images, it shouldn’t be too bad a strategy.

If you’re not using Mozilla Firefox, you might need a different key combination to opt for the original uncompressed images. I found these from LJDiaz.com.

  • Shift + F5 - Internet Explorer users
  • Ctrl + F5 - Mozilla Firefox users
  • Ctrl + R - Opera Users

Also, don’t forget to clear your cache!

An Easter Musical

Sunday Apr 5, 2009

If you will be in Iloilo City this coming Easter Sunday, April 12, let me invite you to our Easter Musical.

It will be about an hour of music with our choir singing eight pieces (42 pages of notes!) composed of various songs that revolve around the passion, the death, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the challenge that Christians must face.

This invitation is also extended to non-Christians and even aetheists. You can come just for the entertainnment. It’s free admission anyway. See you there at 5PM!
