New phone!

Saturday Mar 21, 2009

Things like this need to happen. We say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. First, allow me to mourn over my old friend.

I was really saddened when I knew that my loyal phone for the past 4 years is beyond repair. My good old Nokia 3200 has served me very well, especially with its LED flashlight which was of utmost use to me in countless occasions. There is none like it, especially with its personalized casing design which never failed to receive remarks.

I took this oblation photo myself and put it on the back cover.

I took this oblation photo myself and put it on the back cover.

However for the past weeks it has started to hang often at random intervals before totally blacking-out. I should have taken that as a warning sign. Two days ago it started showing the “Phone Restricted” message every time I turn it on. I could do no more beyond that.

Last words: Phone Restricted

Last words: "Phone Restricted"

I asked my father to bring it to a phone repair stall. He went to three and all declared it beyond repair. Not even reprogramming can revive it because its IMEI was said to have been erased. Ok. It’s dead.

I should have taken precaution at the first signs of its demise. Now, most of my phonebook entries died with it. So did numerous important and memorable messages, some dating as far back as 2005. Lucky are those whose records of debts were listed among the messages.

So I say thank you to my Nokia 3200, a job well done. You have endured numerous drops from over 4 feet, several drizzles, and even splashes from the sea. Take some deserved rest. You can trust me I will not put you in the trash bin or in the fire because you might explode or leak.

With that, I start my new adventure with my new phone – a Nokia 8210!

This unit cost me 650 pesos. Has 4 games in it, a calendar feature, and 35 ringing tones! Best of all, you can use it to call and send SMS! Oh, did I say it came with a charger?

Haha.. Hi pam! I hope it lasts at least 2 months.. LOL!
This 8210 is quite hard to use.. I need 5 presses just to write a message!

Rex Hi! Can’t imagine the separation anxiety you’re going through right now. Especially those memorable text messages you’ve cherished over the years! Yikes! Do you think it’s possible for someone to manually extract those message from the drive? The messages must be still intanct in there as it was not delleted, right? Just a thought…

Perhaps it is possible.. somewhere in one of those microchips. However I have already learned to accept that fact that my beloved phone is broken. As with many things in this life, we should hold loosely to them for they are all temporary. Let’s just be thankful that we had them for a little while. Then let’s put our concerns on those which are truly important.

Hi Rex,

I must say, Nokia 8210 has served me well. It’s the first phone I had, which my sister gave me. It’s practically handy but not easy to use. But you’ll get the hang of it in time.

My suggestion so you can keep the N8210 for more than two years is get a quality and original Nokia charger.

Haha! Thanks for the comment kuya. The 8210 I bought actually had serious problems with signal reception. I need to be in the middle of the road in Miagao to get even just 1 bar. I already gave it to my father and just borrowed a phone from my aunt. I got what I paid for. Haha!
