Image Compression in Globe Tattoo
Posted by Rex | Under Uncategorized Saturday Apr 18, 2009
Since I got my Globe Tattoo (aka Visibility) kit, I’ve been frustrated over its automatic compression of images in every website I visit. I’m quite particular with photos and their quality so it was a major problem and I thought I was stuck with it as long as I use my Globe Tattoo unit.
It was only lately when I noticed something everytime I hover on a photo. A message appears “please wait 1 second(s) for an uncompressed image, or press Ctrl+F5 for original quality page”.
I tried it and it worked! All along I’ve been suffering from seeing blurry images everywhere and it’s only now that learned there’s an easy way out of it!
So if you want to see the original uncompressed image of a single photo, just hover your cursor over it for a while and it will reload automatically. If you want to see the all the photos in the entire page uncompressed, just hit Ctrl+F5 (check below for non-Firefox users).
See the difference in these crops from my Philippine Money blog. If you’re using Globe wireless broadband, make sure to first press Ctrl+F5 or you might now see the difference!

Of course Globe is automatically compressing the photos we download in in its servers in order to give us a faster browsing experience. Now that we know of a way to opt for uncompressed images, it shouldn’t be too bad a strategy.
If you’re not using Mozilla Firefox, you might need a different key combination to opt for the original uncompressed images. I found these from LJDiaz.com.
- Shift + F5 – Internet Explorer users
- Ctrl + F5 – Mozilla Firefox users
- Ctrl + R – Opera Users
Also, don’t forget to clear your cache!

[...] Images displayed on web pages are visibly more compressed compared to accessing the same through DSL. Loss of quality is significant. Perhaps a strategy to save on bandwidth? (update: found a fix!) [...]
Hi, i found a real solution for the image pixelation / compression in Globe Tattoo, this works with Mozilla Firefox.
Steps:
1. Open your Firefox.
2. Enter in the address bar “about:config” (without the quotes).
3. Click “I’ll be careful, I promise!”.
4. On the filter field, search for “extra.firefox” (without quotes).
5. Below you’ll see general.useragent.extra.firefox, change the value to Hello/4.0 for which it was Firefox/3.0.8 in my case.
That’s it! You should be able to browse the internet with original/uncompressed images.
Anyone knows the trick for Safari and Opera? Please post reply here.

Wow, that’s cool. Thanks for this! Now we don’t need to press Ctrl+F5 each time we visit a new website.
Aside from compression, sometimes I’m also having issues accessing YouTube videos. Javascript turned off daw? I don’t know if it’s just me.

By the way the image compression is a natural event for me.
Because if u want to have a faster internet speed, low quality images is good and vice versa.
High quality nga, ang tagal naman magload…
By the way if you really want to have the fastest internet experience, go for Opera 10 Turbo Edition Beta.
Or the latest version of Mozilla Firefox.
