SMART Buddy Rewards Program
Posted by Rex | Under Uncategorized Monday Jul 20, 2009
Weeks ago, I was getting promo messages in my SMS inbox from Smart Telecom about their rewards program and so, since I was a little bored, I decided to give it a try. I registered by sending REWARDS to 9800. I’m a prepaid “Buddy” subscriber by the way.
I also got messages from 9800 telling me that my point were about to expire so I should redeem them already. I guess Smart was already keeping track of my point even before I registered.
Curious as to how many points I have already accumulated, I sent INQUIRY to 9800. To my surprise, I already had a whopping 31,830 points! Since 5 points are rewarded for every P1 transaction, that means I already spent P6,366?
I really don’t know how I got that much points but it seemed like a lot and I was excited to check what I could redeem with it. Probably free air tickets? Haha!
Haha indeed. After testing REDEMPTION to 9800, they told me I have two options. I could redeem (a) 100 Smart-to-Smart texts [expires in 2 days] with 5,000 rewards points or (b) P300 Buddy Prepaid Phonekit discount with 30,000 rewards points. Not very useful!
I was expecting much more. I rarely text more than 20 SMS a day so option a’s 2-day expiry is too short. Then, I already have a phone so why would I buy another phone just to use the P300 discount?
Well, 31 thousand reward points isn’t so much after all. But small rewards are still better than no rewards. I just wish Smart would also convert the rewards points to airtime for Buddy subscribers. Then maybe I can use it for mobile surfing. Smart Gold offers P50 bill rebate for 12,500 points and Smart Bro Prepaid P30 load for 7,500 points.
Smart Rewards also has discount packages in collaboration with some stores but I could hardly get information since their website isn’t very useful and has quite a lot of bugs. What do the other 20 million + subscribers have to say?
UPDATE:
I decided to redeem 5000 points to get 100 Smart to Smart/TNT because I needed to text some people. Guess what, 9800 said it will be credited within 48 hours! What?!
